What happened to the DVDs?
For quite a few years now, we've been providing our videos on a set of
DVDs. However, much as floppy drives disappeared a decade ago, fewer
and fewer computers have easy access to a DVD drive these days. We
have therefore decided to switch our production to USB thumb drives.
They are a little more expensive than DVD blanks, but they are much
more reliable and easy to ship. What's more, you now get a useful 32
GB drive out of the deal.
What do I get?
We provide all of our materials on a 32 GB USB thumb drive (full listing). This is stuffed full of
hundreds of hours of lecture videos, colloquia, problem sets, exams,
notes and solutions. Every course-related bit of information you can
find on this site is there, and you don't have to download any of it.
How much does it cost?
$75 buys the USB drive and free shipping anywhere in the world (though
we'd be thrilled if you could donate more).
Isn't it strange that, even now, it's still cheaper and faster for us
to ship you a physical widget through the mail than for you to
download the information over the net? Never underestimate the
bandwidth of the US Postal Service...
What can I do with it?
Nearly all of our content is released under the Creative Commons
Attribution-ShareAlike license. This means that you are free to
do almost anything you like with it -- copy it yourself, distribute
it, even change it (see the FAQ for the
details). (Note: the colloquia we include are the speakers'
personal opinions, and as such they are licensed under the slightly
different Attribution-NoDerivs
rules. Share them as much as you like, but no modifications allowed.)
Our hope is to make this information as widely available as possible.
Share it with your friends and colleagues, make copies to pass around
campus, put it up online yourself.
How do I order?
We'll accept any kind of US-dollar-denominated currency
instrument, such as a bank draft, money order, or personal check. You
can also pay via credit card through PayPal, though in that case it
costs $3 extra to cover PayPal's fees. Please include a shipping
address. To repeat, please include a shipping address. Type
it into the space that is provided for comments. Paypal won't provide
it for us automatically.. If you have any other questions or special
requests, just drop us a line at (drives@aduni.org).
